Billie Eilish was not just a singer, but a speaker during Wednesday’s virtual Democratic National Convention.

The 18-year-old prefaced her first public performance of her new song “My Future,” with a scathing indictment of President Trump and an appeal to her peers to vote “against [him] and for [his Democratic challenger] Joe Biden.”

Eilish began by saying, “You don’t need me to tell you things are a mess, Donald Trump is destroying our country and everything we care about.” She followed by naming the areas in which she believes Trump is failing us: “We need leaders who will solve problems like climate change and COVID, not deny them, leaders who will fight against systemic racism and inequality.”

Before launching into “My Future,” she warned viewers that, “We all have to vote as if our lives depend on it, because they do. The only way to be certain of the future is to make it ourselves.”
