Apps to help prevent food waste from businesses

Approximately one-third of food, or 1.6 billion tons, goes to waste each year. Waste happens for a number of reasons, including on store shelves. There are a few apps to connect people to businesses with surplus food. One is called Too Good To Go. It’s diverted 18 million meals from the landfill since 2015, but it’s only available in Europe. Another app called YourLocal is in Europe and New York. It’s based on the same idea of connecting businesses and people to divert good food from the trash and feed people with up to a 70% discount.
