Plastic utensils and cutting boards have become a thing that last decade or so. Most people think they’re better than wood, but did you know that wood has natural antibacterial properties? It stops bacteria from growing and spreading on surfaces and makes your wood boards and spoons safe to use over a long period of time. More bacteria is recovered from a used plastic surface than a used wood surface. But look for cracks in your wood spoons or boards. If you find a hairline crack, fix it with food-safe wood glue before it gets bigger. Once a crack expands to more than two millimeters thick, it can’t be fixed and it’ll collect food and bacteria.
