Iceland’s latest tourism campaign has an environmental reminder, “Welcome to Iceland. Drinks are on us”. it’s an effort to get more visitors to stop buying disposable water bottles and use a reusable bottle. Iceland’s tap water is described as the cleanest and greatest tasting water in the world, yet people still buy bottled water. Incredibly two-thirds of people buy more bottled water when traveling than at home and only 26% of travelers take a refillable water bottle on vacation. Visitors to Iceland can refill their water bottles anywhere in the country, it’s labeled as a “luxury drink” in various hotels, bars and restaurants. When you’re traveling this summer, make sure you bring along reusable water bottles and coffee mugs, and help reduce the use of single use disposables.
