I’m ready to turn the page on 2020 and move forward into 2021 with great intention. This past year has been a great disrupter in every aspect of our lives, including sustainability. But there are ways to reduce waste and act more sustainably. Most grocery stores are welcoming reusable bags back in their store, including produce bags. If you’ve been overwhelmed with paper bags, now’s the time to get back into the habit. The simple act of each American going plant-based one day a week could save approximately 1 billion gallons of water each year and save you money. We’re washing our hands a lot more lately (I hope) and switching to bar soap can help reduce plastic waste. Learning how to repair your clothes, small appliances or other household items helps to keep them out of landfills. Finally, e-commerce is easy but shopping local boosts our economy, reduces packaging, has a smaller environmental impact and keeps our cities vibrant.
