Skip the pesticides and invite bug-eating birds to your garden

If you have a yard, you have bugs. Most of those bugs contribute in some way to the health of your garden, be it veggies, flowers or just grass. But unwelcome bugs show up too. Instead of using chemicals to ‘control’ them, invite bug-eating birds into your garden. Yards that are filled with plants that invite bug-eating birds help control the destructive pest population. And as a bonus, many of them are songbirds. There are a few things you can do to attract helpful birds into your garden:

  • Plant native species
  • Don’t use chemicals
  • Plant trees or blackberries/blueberries
  • Put fruit on a bird feeder
  • Add a bird bath
