PSU and Reed College researchers to study air quality

The EPA awarded a grant to researchers from Portland State University and Reed College to study local diesel exhaust emissions. Researchers will begin gathering data to try to identify neighborhoods in the area that are most vulnerable to the air pollution. Neighbors for Clean Air are hoping the information about what’s in diesel and where it comes from will help them design strategies to reduce health risks from diesel pollution. Diesel exhaust is a known carcinogen and it’s believed to cause more than 450 premature deaths each year in Oregon.
