London Starbucks charging 5 pence per disposable cup

Starbucks locations in London are discovering there’s one way to get people to start changing their habits. Make them pay. In the six weeks since the 35 Starbucks locations in London started charging 5 pence for disposable cups, they’ve seen a 150 percent increase in reusable cup usage.  Before the trial, only 2.2 percent of customers brought their own cup, it’s now up to 5.9 percent. Granted 6% of customers bringing their own cup is pretty low, but it’s a start. The biggest change is in the morning with about 8 1/2 % of customers bringing their own cups. Probably because it’s easier to remember your cup in the morning. I’m still waiting for Starbucks to introduce the trial run here in the states.
