There are lots of different alternatives to plastic straws, paper, glass, stainless steel and even hay. But here’s a new one, straws made from agave. Tequila is made from agave but once it’s boiled, the remaining fibers are left as a byproduct. Jose Cuervo ends up with a lot and has found many uses for it, as alternatives to plastic, paper, housing bricks and fuel, even using it as fiber-based bioplastics in cars in a partnership with Ford. Now they’ve found another alternative, straws. It’s a first-of-its-kind biodegradable, bio-based drinking straw.
