Jack Johnson’s BYOBottle campaign

A few years back, Jack Johnson considered retiring from touring. The musician was concerned about the environmental impact, the plastic bottles, plastic bags and food containers scattered about. But instead of stopping his tours, he decided to try something different. He created a rider full of green demands. Any venue he played at had to follow his instructions, like using vehicles that burn bio-diesel, reusable beer cups, bike valets and installing energy efficient light bulbs. None of the vendors sell bottled water, instead, there are refilling stations on site. He created a BYOBottle campaign, an environmental campaign that engages artists, venues, festivals and fans to reduce plastic pollution. Since then hundreds of artists have signed on including Ben Harper, The Lumineers, Dave Matthews Band and more.
