Is Starbucks really eliminating their disposable cups?

We’ve heard the company make promises about moving away from single-use cups before, so excuse me for being skeptical. However, I’m always hopeful. The company recognizes that their unmistakable cups are linked with our throwaway society. At best, ending up in the landfill, at worst, littering the streets and waterways. Phase one is allowing customers to use their own mugs at every Starbucks in the U.S. and Canada, even if they order ahead or use the drive-thru. By 2025, the company wants every customer to be able to either use their own mug easily or borrow a ceramic or reusable to-go mug. Rolling out their borrow-a-mug program would require a deposit.

Next, I’d love to see them stop transferring their baked goods from a sealed plastic pouch to their pastry bags. They could just print their logo on those pouches and call it good, reducing a lot of single-waste garbage.
