Headwaters Theatre’s Production of BEE زنبو

BEE زنبور is a new play from Off-Broadway that explores the strength of family, fleeing your home, and immigration. It is based on a true story about Izat, my grandmother, who is trapped in an abusive marriage in the 1940s. In an unprecedented move, her father is able to use his influence to secure a divorce for her. Moving back and forth in time from 1940 to 2009, the story follows Izat’s struggles on her path toward a better life. BEE زنبور takes further inspiration from a collection of interviews with Middle Eastern immigrants and refugees and weaves between the scenes movement and music.
