It always peaks my interest when I hear that Oregon is tops in the nation at something -- per capita micro-breweries, college football, etc -- but, I was dismayed to hear that such a health conscious state could lead the nation in melanoma death rates for women. Overall, the state has the 4th highest melanoma death rate in the nation.

Even with our limited months of sunshine, Oregon has the nation’s fourth highest death rate from skin cancer. Using tanning beds at an early age is linked to premature skin cancers and many states are taking steps to limit minor’s access to these skin cancer producing beds.
