LINER NOTES
Train “Cab”
Despite the fact that a broken down tour bus had them running three hours late, Pat Monahan and Train somehow managed to find their way to the KINK Live Performance Lounge. After a few well-earned minutes to wipe away the dirt from the road they proceeded to deliver one of the most talked about sessions of the year. These guys are professionals in every sense of the word.
Snow Patrol “Chasing Cars”
Luckily Snow Patrol stopped by KINK for a special weekend performance before Gary Lightbody’s well-publicized bout with Laryngitis. Although a number of shows had to be cancelled, their outstanding set in The Live Performance Lounge went off without a hitch
Joe Satriani “Always With Me, Always With You”
Joe Satriani exhibits complete mastery over his guitar. Even in the intimate confines of KINK’s Performance Lounge, we were at a loss to explain how he does it! Thanks to Joe for gracing us with this amazing take on one of our favorite tunes.
Amos Lee “Shout Out Loud”
KINK has been in Amos Lee’s corner from the very start. His engaging but introspective voice pulls you in and makes you want to hear more. In his own unassuming way, he cast a soulful spell on the KINK Live Performance Lounge and then proceeded to ask directions to the nearest Vegan restaurant.
Shawn Colvin “Fill Me Up”
It has been about five years since Ms. Colvin’s last visit to the KINK Live Performance Lounge. A lot has changed in her world both personally and professionally, and we were anxious to catch up. Once we heard that familiar voice it was like reuniting with an old friend.
Five for Fighting “World”
If you are a Soprano’s fan you are, no doubt, familiar with this tune.
HBO adopted it as their new promo theme song. Up until the time this was recorded the only one, outside of management, privy to this information was John Ondrasik’s famous comedian neighbor Ray Romano. We feel privileged that he decided to bring us into the loop.
Brett Dennen “She’s Mine”
Brett is one of those people that exudes a love for life. Not suprisingly, artists like John Mayer are lining up to include him on their tours. His meaningful lyrics and unique phrasing make him one of the most original artists to grace the Live performance Lounge in some time. He was also the only one this year to perform barefoot. No Shoes…No Socks…No Problem!
John Butler Trio “Better Than”
With rave reviews filtering down from his performances at major festivals like Bonnaroo and Live Earth it was a treat to be able to invite John and his band into our little radio living room for a searing session that included this track from his latest album “Grand National”
Angelique Kidjo “Salala”
Her latest album “Djin Djin” features guest appearances from the likes of Peter Gabriel, Ziggy Marley and Carlos Santana. Expectations were high the day this four time Grammy nominee stopped by KINK to entertain the KINK Community. She not only delivered the goods but taught us all how to properly pronounce her new album.
Tyrone Wells “What Are We Fighting For”
Tyrone was driving down I-5 from Seattle to Portland the very first time he heard one of his songs played on the radio. Coincidentally he was enroute to the Live Performance Lounge listening to KINK. We’re honored to be a benchmark in this rising star’s career.
Bruce Cockburn “If I Had a Rocket Launcher”
Bruce arrived ready to reminisce and shared some great stories from his early days before unleashing an arsenal of classic songs on the KINK Live Performance Lounge. We love it when the veterans come to play
Michael Franti and Spearhead “I Know I’m Not Alone”
The band was in town for two sold out shows at the Roseland and stopped by KINK to share an impassioned hour with the KINK Community. It culminated in a standing ovation and left us believing that music can change the world for the better.
Regina Spektor “Fidelity”
Life on the road can be lonely. By the time this Russian born American singer songwriter found her way to Portland, her arduous tour was taking its toll and she was determined to find a kitten to keep her company. After indulging us in a few tracks from her latest album she was last seen heading in the direction of the Humane Society.
The Goo Goo Dolls “Better Days”
Both CNN and ABC adopted this tune for their Hurricane Katrina coverage which gave us an opportunity to discuss the news of the day. The conversation was timely; the music was fantastic and judging from the approving murmur from female members of the audience..Johnny Rzeznik looked fabulous!
Jackie Greene “I’m So Gone”
Jackie was still in his teens when he was discovered performing at an open mike night. It is hard to believe these intense lyrics are coming from someone barely in their twenties. This is an artist to watch and we are pleased to make him a part of this years KINK Live collection.
Kim Richey “Jack and Jill”
Kim’s music has been recorded by the likes of Trisha Yearwood and the Dixie Chicks, but the release of her latest solo album “Chinese Boxes” gave her a good chance to showcase her own performing skills. She has come a long way from her days as a cook at the Blue Bird Cafe in Nashville.
Suzanne Vega “Frank and Eva”
We were unknowingly sitting in the presence of royalty! When Karlheinz Brandenburg used Suzanne’s tune “Luka” to fine-tune his revolutionary new Mp3 format, she became known as the “Mother of the MP3”. Listen to Mother and save a spot in your media player for this track!
The Feeling “Sewn”
These five talented Brits proudly wear their pop influences on their sleeve and know their way around a great harmony. Though barely in their twenties, they grew up idolizing the likes of Supertramp and Queen and from the first note made believers out of the KINK Live Performance Lounge.
Rocco DeLuca “Colorful”
Rocco was one of the first new artists signed to Keifer Sutherland’s new record label and graciously waded through our obvious Jack Bauer questions. That ended the minute he picked up his Dobro Steel Guitar and began singing. This track was recorded live at Starbucks and had even the most casual listener looking up from their latte.
