Friday, April 2, 2010 - Yes. It's a stormy weekend. So let's start indoors, and work our way to the big outdoors and celebrate springtime. It will be here. Soon.
1. A couple of movies as we head into one big rainy stretch,
The documentary October Country first screened in Portland during the International Film Festival. It’s the story of a family in the Mohawk valley in upstate New York, living in rural poverty. But the roots find their way back to Portland with filmmakers Donal Mosher and Michael Palmieri..They had help from Portland writer Jon Raymond, and filmmaker Todd Haynes.
You can catch October Country at the Fox Tower.Friday evening and Saturday evening, the filmmakers are doing a Q&A at 7PM.
It's an unflinching, ghostly and absolutely beautifully filmed look at dysfunction, poverty and, well, a family that in a lot of ways is the same as any. Here's my conversation with Donal and Michael. LISTEN BELOW
2. And one more movie to suggest? Greenberg. Dave and I are both itching to see this Ben Stiller movie made by Noah Baumbach.. Smartly written, funny. And this film gives newcomer Greta Gerwig a wonderful chance to shine. I loved Margot at the Wedding and Squid and the Whale. so Greenberg is on my list.
We talked with Greta about movie. LISTEN BELOW.
3. The Spring Beer and Wine fest starts today and I heard that there will be a special outdoor smokers tent and I guess the Final Four and "friendly tent hang" go together because that's where you will be able to catch the games.
4. We are heading into a truly special w-end. It’s Easter. Passover continues into Monday... Buddha’s birthday is celebrated at the Japanese Garden this w-end. so there’s much food for thought.
...but fun too.
Sunday join the Bunny on a Bike ride..dress like a rabbit for hippity's sake. A 2 hour ride come rain or shine at Columbia park Sunday aft a 2p.
5. And as a finale? Check your stash of logs....light a fire....find some cozy time with friends and fam..And enjoy a stormy w-end in the NW.
