Frank Wilderson’s book on contemporary racial politics in the US and South Africa is not your sister’s beach read. It is turbulent, and controversial, and forces us to look closely at the furious last gasps of apartheid. Soon after fleeing racism in the United States, Wilderson was teaching at Johannesburg and Soweto universities by day, and helping the African National Congress coordinate clandestine propaganda by night. Fast forward to modern day, and Wilderson ‘s score on racial politics hasn’t changed much. He’s a black man in a white world. Here’s the podcast for those of you in the mood for “brain food.”
Frank reads from his book Tuesday 8/26 at 7:30 at Powell’s Books, 1005 W. Burnside. (Prepare for fireworks)
