Chris Yarrow has two passions-art and music. Now, he can combine the two to help benefit music education in Portland. Chris’ Dad is Peter Yarrow of Peter, Paul and Mary, so naturally, Chris grew up surrounded by musicians, instruments, and art. Listen to the Podcast here!
For seven years, Chris has surrounded himself with art as the owner of the Monkey and the Rat, the import store with locations in Chinatown and the Alberta Arts district. Now , he’s turning that lovely, eclectic space into a music studio. “The Monkey and the Rat” will feature the works of local singer songwriters. The concerts will be recorded for a cd that will be sold to raise funds for Ethos Music Center, the North Portland non-profit that brings music education into the lives o fPortland students. In this podcast, I talk with Chris and Earl Marson, a local reggae musician, about the need for a couch experience for kids that does not include computers.
