Support Statewide Plastic Bag Ban

Portland’s plastic bag ban went into effect almost four years ago. Eugene, Corvallis and Ashland followed sighting the negative impacts on the environment. Before those bans, DEQ estimated that Oregonians used approximately 100,000 tons of plastic film in 2009 and a very small percentage of single-use plastic bags are recycled. Now there’s a movement to get a plastic bag ban across the state. A Eugene couple started an online petition on Change.Org that they hope to send to Senator Jeff Merkley. Their goal just increased to 7500 and they’re about 2,000 signatures away from that number.
