Hollywood loves its celebrity. The Golden Globes WILL be an exciting event, but not everyone has been invited to the party.

MTV did a fine job of gathering up the films that SHOULD have made the cut. WHAT!!?! NO Gary Oldman. Sheesh!



To right some of the wrongs, we picked our five most unforgivable oversights from the Golden Globe nominations.


No Original Song Nominations for 'The Muppets'
You'd be hard-pressed to find someone who didn't walk out of "The Muppets" belting out "Man or Muppet" or whistling "Life's A Happy Song." In a fair and just world, Bret McKenzie's work on the film would have taken up three of the five slots, because aside from being catchy as hell, the songs made the film work as well as it did.

No Actor Nomination for Gary Oldman in 'Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy'
Gary Oldman has always been one of film's most animated actors, so when he turned in as quiet and controlled of a performance as he did with "Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy," people took notice. Sadly, the HFPA were not among them. Oldman has never been nominated for either a Golden Globe or an Oscars. Who do I blame? EEVVVERRYYOONNEE!

No Director Nomination for Terrence Malick for 'Tree of Life'
Regardless of where you stand on the cosmic elements of the "Tree of Life," director Terrence Malick deserves recognition for the scope, scale and vision of his epic. He captured some of the year's best performances and made a film unlike anything we've ever seen before. Comparatively, many of the other director nominations seem safe.

No Lead Actor Nomination for Michael Shannon in 'Take Shelter'
As a man struggling with the end of the world and/or the loss of his sanity, Michael Shannon commanded the screen in "Take Shelter" and proved he's one of the most interesting actors working today. The scene at the community center alone was worthy of a nomination, but thankfully, Shannon is the type of actor that will show up on shortlists for years to come.

No Best Motion Picture Nomination for 'Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2'
It was always a long shot, but if you compare this movie to every other this year in terms of emotional payoff, it clearly deserved a Best Motion Picture nomination. Ten years in the making, "Deathly Hallows - Part 2" had the tallest order of any movie in 2011: deliver a satisfying conclusion and work as a stand alone movie. Not only did it fulfill its promises, it surpassed expectations.

Honorable Mention: Almost Every Television Category
The HFPA always favors newer shows, but they took it too far this year. By nominating seven new series for the ten Best Series slots, they managed to snub "Parks and Recreation," "Breaking Bad," and "Friday Night Lights." With the latter two, the HFPA also missed obvious actor nominations for Aaron Paul, Giancarlo Esposito and Kyle Chandler. Don't even make me mention that they ignored Steve Carrell's last episodes on "The Office."
