At the Record Store 12/5

December 5, 2011, 10:29 pm

Last week was sparse.  This week is plentiful.  Not in quantity, but quality.  And so it goes.  Here's your reasons to hit a local record store this week:

The Black Keys - El Camino: First and foremost, I haven't been this excited about an album in a while.  I've been loving The Black Keys for a long time, and couldn't be happier that they're catching on in a commercial way.  They've managed to do so without sacrificing their traditional garage rock, loud and full sound.  More power to em'.  Last year's "Brothers" was one of my favorite albums of the year.  This year, well, the year's not over yet.

The Roots - undun: Second and foremost, you won't find me happier than when I am browsing through new releases at the record store and I notice The Roots have a new album out.  Their track record is incredible.  For my money, perhaps the most talented hip-hop artists still putting music out.  This new album is supposed to be a concept album, telling the life story of an ill-fated 25 year old in reverse.  This is sure to be done to the tune of 70s soul guitars and amazing beats.  Do yourself a favor.
