DVD: Get Along

Quick Review: The twins from Canada have released a new live album, and accompanying DVD.  The DVD is broken into 3 separate short documentaries:

The first documentary, States, follows Tegan and Sara through their 2010 US Tour.  The tour footage is overdubbed with interview clips, with the women talking about their beginnings as musicians.  The stories are really interesting, including hearing about their first trip to the US to play at the SXSW music festival and how unprepared they were for their first major tour, opening for Neil Young.  In addition to interview clips, the band set up a microphone at one of their shows to allow fans to ask questions.  This is the highlight of the film, watching Tegan and Sara respond to queries such as: What would you do during the Zombie Apocalypse? and If you weren't musicians, what would you be?  If you've ever seen the the group live, you know that their shows are special because of their story-telling. 

The second documentary, India, follows Tegan and Sara during a brief trip to...you guessed it: India.  The ladies were accompanied on this trip by their band, their mother, and their friends.  Hearing from their mother and long-time school friend certainly added a new perspective to the duo.  It humanized them, not that they necessarily come off as larger than life to begin with.  The camera shots are beautiful, with India's scenery doing most of the heavy lifting.  

The final documentary, For the Most Part, is a straight forward live concert film.  The show is special, with a very small audience consisting of mostly close friends and fans.  The goal of the show was to have a very personal and interactive show.  They succeeded.  In addition, the songs have been re-worked, sounding different than you might be used to. ~Jason Miller
