The remastered edition of The Dark Side of the Moon was packed full with rarities. But fans are really going to grab up an unreleased, alternate version of Wish You Were Here. Out today.
WISH YOU WERE HEREThis next in the WHY PINK FLOYD..? project should excite fans. Nick Mason in a recent Rolling Stone piece said, the 3 remaining members didn't always agree. "To put it bluntly, Roger would prefer that we pretend that nothing ever happened with Pink Floyd after he left, so we always have that one to go through," Mason said with a laugh. "But after that, once we know what we're trying to do, we do a lot of work to be sure that we have the right mix, and it tends to be quite well done. We can be quite grown up at times!" Read more

Some of this stuff even astonishes the band members. Drummer Nick Mason said he thought the alternate version had been lost forever. Says Mason, "When I hear it, I'm astonished, really, that we didn't go, 'Of course, we must have that.' " Mason also adds that this release is sort of "the last gasp of physical records and opportunity" in terms of the art direction you can offer.
A new two-CD Wish You Were Here Experience edition ($28.99) pairs the remastered original album with a second CD that contains the "lost" track and other unreleased tracks.
An Immersion box set ($149.99) includes those two CDs, plus two DVDs with surround and quadraphonic versions of the original album, along with video that played onscreen during concerts. Also included: a Blu-ray disc with high-resolution versions of all the various album treatments.
