Happy New Month! The date is 11/1/11. Best. Date. Ever. Until the 11th, at least. Anywho, always a great day to head to your local record store. Here are some new releases to grab when you get there:
The Decemberists - Long Live the King: After the incredibly fantastic release "The King is Dead," the band is releasing an EP full of B-Sides. I'm sometimes wary of B-Sides, but the material on the album was so strong, I really look forward to see what didn't quite make it. Off the bat, I can tell you the first track "E.Watson" is outstanding.
Florence and the Machine - Ceremonials: Florence and the Machine (FATM, not to be confused with Rage Against the Machine RATM) has a short history of building complex songs. I've yet to see them live, but I hear the live shows are closer to straight rock and roll. The albums include more ambient sound and production. Frankly, I'll take my FATM either way. Whatever works.
Gary Nock - The Life we Learned to Live: If you're in the mood for something on the mellower side, Ben Nock is a pretty talented dude. This album has a very black or white feeling to it. Some songs, such as "Make it Better" or "Love is Real" are very cheery. Other songs like "Dynamite" or "Days of Our Lives", not so much. All are capable of matching your mood on any given day, though. Give it a listen.
