5 Things to DO This W-end
September 28, 2012, 9:23 am
We've had several farewells to summer. But this might really be goodby as October reality hits next week. Lots of reasons to stay up late this w-end and relish the last warmth of Indian Summer.
1. National Indian Day. It's the 7th annual Dancing in the Square Pow Wow. "Pow wow" means gathering.
Pioneer Courthouse Square transforms today (9/28) into Portland's heartbeat as drummers, dancer, vendors and native American tribes set up for a day sharing stories, culture, and food. We talked with Erik Kakuska, a Zuni native. He's also Project Coordinator with the Northwest Portland Area Indian Health Board. Listen to our conversation below the 5.
2. FURTHERMORE AFTERPARTY. Three legendary days at the Edgefield are sold out as Dead Heads converge. What's a fan to do and what to do after the show if you are going. We have just the thing. Friday and Saturday from 9:00pm until 5:00am it's Afro funk, Americana, psychedelic soul funk at The Refuge. It's a large warehouse loft space with indoor outdoor areas. "Two stellar nights of excellent high energy music and esthetics with our friends and family until the morning comes!" say the organizers. More

3. FREE MUSEUM DAY. Thanks to the Smithsonian Magazine, museums across the country have free admission on Saturday. Here in Portland, it means you get into the Portland Art Museum, The Oregon History Museum, the World Forestry Center and more. Get tickets and info

4. SUNDAY PARKWAYS. It's the last one of the season! This one will take you through East Portland. The 7 mile traffic-free route connects part of the Springwater Corridor with Glenwood, Lents, Bloomington, and Ed Benedict parks. Bike, skateboard, jog, or walk from park to park. Observe and take part in activities including a soccer tournament, a kids circus, dance and fitness classes, free bike repair, bike skills track, live music, and more. The parkways run from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. The map is

5. PORTLAND JUGGLING FESTIVAL. That fabulous end of summer party is on today, through Sunday at Reed College. As always, the fun goes into the wee hours. Hundreds of juggling friends, workshops, gatherings and great people watching. Details
