Green Tips: Spiders!?!

We can feel autumn in the air. Days shorter, definitely more chilly nights. Is that what accounts for more spiders inside the house.

CHANGING SEASONS AND REASONS FOR SPIDERS INDOORS

It’s not the coolness but mating season that coincides with their appearance. Males wandering in search of mates. So now what? If wandering  spiders are becoming a problem, a few things to do include:  Vacuuming inside and out,  using amber or yellow exterior lights. Less attractive to insects. Door sweeps open, pipe chases and damaged vent screens are all points of entry, so tighten up your house.

EDEN ON SPIDER CONTROL

Spiders usually spend their entire life cycle in, on or under their native building. If a large number appear at a specific season, it is usually late summer (August and September) -- not a notably cold time of year! -- rather than fall, and their appearance coincides with the mating season of the given species. What you are seeing is sexually mature males wandering in search of mates.
