Dusty York dropped by our studios and brought us an update on all things SLM. Dusty began as a jazz musician, so the shift between the improv-style to something that has a pop form, and learning the craft of that, has been a fun challenge. Aaron Linn now is part of the duo, as well.

Just when I thought: Winter is here. It's the end of the year. No more music discoveries to be made until next year.

Sad Little Men is the latest emergence from the new music hotbed of Portland, OR. It stemmed from the mind of former saxophonist turned vocalist/multi-intsrumentalist Dusty York, who spent many years releasing recordings from a multitude of artists on his own record label Diatic Records. After five releases of his own he abandoned the saxophone, as well as jazz and the record label, to pursue a career in the indie-pop realm.

After a two year hiatus from performing and recording, York teamed up with Los Angeles drummer Justin Roberts and formed Sad Little Men. They quickly recorded their debut album entitled 'I'll Be The Octopus' and proceeded to begin playing live, with a national tour being planned for 2012.

Their style is an energetic, percussion oriented romp, with catchy rhythms and hooks that have York switching back and forth between guitar and piano, as well as handling all of the writing and vocal duties.
