Study Shows Most Annoying Sound

Whining may be world's most annoying sound.
Sometimes, it's good to feel like you're not alone.
I've always questioned my inability to put up with whining. It's the most annoying, egregious sound on earth and my kids know it's the least tolerated noise in our house. That's is why this study makes me feel better. It puts whining on par with the sound of a high pitched table saw, one of the most irritating noises in the world. Researchers at SUNY New Paltz asked people to try to do simple math, then tried out a variety of distractions. The people could put up with infants crying, regular speech, even foreign speech. But whining obliterated people's ability to concentrate. The findings were published in the Journal of Social, evolutionary and Cultural Psychology.
