Bob Ancheta is Retiring!!!
June 20, 2012, 10:19 am
There aren't too many people I know who are dreamers, and actually end up "living the dream." Bob Ancheta, a.k.a. "BA" or "The Big BA," is one of those guys.
Bob's first real radio gig began in 1970 on a legendary underground AM station, and he will finish out his career on KINK Sunday July 8th, broadcasting live, on the final day from the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival.
BA told me recently that it was the LOCAL blues scene that sowed the seeds for the incredible success the Waterfront Blues Festival has become today, so expect lots of local blues music and artists representing on his show. SAVE THE DATE!
Bob began his career on the AM side of the dial, but when he first heard
KINK on the FM dial, he knew where he had to go next. Bob didn't arrive
to KINK until 12 years ago, but in between, what a career. His
devotion to local music in both rock and blues has been unwavering.
Hope you can join us for the big BA finale. Stop by. Wish him well on his final Sunday Night Blues Room
show 7p-10p. RETIREMENT AND THEN WHAT?
BA's next dream is to do some of those things that are still out there to chase, so "retirement" starts when he finishes official duties on KINK with the Sunday Night Blues Room , and he broadcasts his last show live from the Safeway Waterfront Blues Festival. Hope the KINK Community and all our friends can be part of wishing BA good things in that next adventure.
And by the way, check out my conversation with Bob. You'll hear about first adventures in radio, broadcasting from his bedroom, to what's next in the big world of The BIG BA!! We love you Bob! ~InessaOREGON MUSIC HALL OF FAME
Last fall, BA was inducted into the OMHOF for a sort of lifetime achievement award. That October, ahead of the induction ceremonies, we got BA into the KINK studios to talk some of the highlights with Dave Scott, Sheila Hamilton, Brad Dolbeer and myself, Listen below.
