A prayer for the Big Man

I’ll never forget my first Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band concert. I’d been warned it was part revival, part rock concert, part rave, but I was simply not prepared for the love that poured from the stage.

Bruce and his band of New Jersey rockers feel and interpret music in a way that oozes off the stage and into your  bloodstream and there’s nobody more in love with live music than  Bruce and Clarence Clemens.

At 6’4” Clemens is the largest presence on the stage, and the man with the biggest heart. His sax is an extension of the joy of the E street band. Clemens has been with Springsteen since the early 70’s and as Bruce says, “I have seen the future of the whole f’ing thing and it is the Big Man, Claren Clemens.”  When Clemens takes the stage for his saxophone solo, there is reverent silence.

We’re sending that same grace to Clemens today, after learning he suffered a serious stroke at his Florida home. The recent news says Clemens is paralyzed on the left side.  Hang in there Clarence.

Send healing wishes to Clarence: notestoclarence@clarenceclemons.com

We love you, the minister of soul, the secretary of the Brotherhood, the Big Man.
