If Janis Joplin and Otis Redding had married and produced a love child who could wail and growl with the power of Janis and the tenderness of Otis, you'd have Brittany Howard.

OMG. Alabama Shakes' front-woman has a voice that demands attention. Talk about owning the stage, Howard is the anti-Ke$ha, owning her curves, her power, and her curly wild hair. Now, she's out to capture your heart. And oh, she will. ~ Sheila Hamilton

Alabama Shakes blew through the Bing Lounge a couple of months ago, just before they popped big in the national press.

The album extends the Shakes' power even further, with eleven cuts that move through R&B, hard rock and punk so seamlessly I found myself asking, "How the heck do you describe this band?" When you're not moved to tears, you'll be howling at the moon.

Alabama Shakes is its own genre, a quartet of originals, Howard, Zac Cockrell, Heath Fogg and Steve Johnson. They are musicians who clearly haven't compromised their sound, their look, or their intended power on the world.
