Join Scoutie at Puglandia

May 17, 2011, 1:24 pm

One of my favorite events of the year is coming up this Sunday!  The Pug Crawl will be at McTarnahan's Tap Room in Northwest Portland on Sunday, May 22nd from noon to 4pm. Bring your camera and be ready to capture me and my pugnacious friends in all of our glory.

Here's the scoop:

Is Portland the place where young pugs come to retire and leave the world of working dogs behind? Do cute Portland pugs where glasses? Is "putting a pug on it" a sure-fire way to become an artist in Portland?

Come explore the answers to these and other pug-related questions at the 11th Annual OHS Pug Crawl, happening May 22 on the streets outside MacTarnhan's Taproom. Puglandia This year's theme is "Puglandia," named in honor of the ground-breaking television show "Portlandia." Puglandia is the largest gathering of pugs on the West Coast, attracting more than 500 four-legged friends and more than 1,000 people.

Parade of Pugs
The highlight of the day is the Parade of Pugs, where almost 100 costumed pugs are expected to walk the runway and compete for the title of King or Queen of Puglandia.

Parade of Pugs begins at approximately 2:30; register on-site for the parade beginning at 2 pm (no fee for entering the parade). You may come with or without a dog. All dog breeds are welcome to attend ( leashes required).

Helping Pets in Need
The 2010 Pug Crawl raised $8,400 to help abandoned, abused and unwanted animals.OHS, the largest and oldest humane society in the Northwest, relies entirely on private donations to find homes for more than 10,000 animals a year. $10 suggested donation to the Oregon Humane Society, pugs (and other dogs) free; kids under 11 free.  100 percent of proceeds go to help the animals at OHS.

Food, Brews, Entertainment
Of course, the The popular Portland event also gives hundreds of pugs (and their owners) a chance to enjoy food, microbrews and live music. See video and pictures from last year's event. MacTarnahan's Taproom, part of Portland's oldest microbrewery, will offer beer and classic brew-house cuisine for the pug owners and spectators, along with limited-edition "Puglandia" pint glasses.
