What was your first radio job? KBPS, reading the Sunday newspaper out loud for the blind.
What was the first album you purchased? Probably the Beatles. Sgt. Pepper.
What was your first concert? Bob Dylan and Joan Baez. My dad dropped me off, and picked me up. I went by myself. WOW. That wouldn’t happen today.
What's your proudest moment? I’m going with Dave Scott’s answer: MY daughter Marika’s birth.
What's your favorite aspect of radio? I love doing so many different things, all at once. For a multi-tasker like myself, always looking for creative outlets, this is a dream.
What was your most embarrassing on-air moment? I did my first real DJ thing overnight. Opened up the mic, and yes, I did lay an F-Bomb into the early morning. It was an out-of-body moment. I was so nervous. Nobody said anything about it though.
What's your favorite thing about living in Portland? I love the weather, the fir trees are a favorite. Cozy, friendly and yet sophisticated.
Who are your favorite writers? That’s tough because I am a voracious reader. But most recently I discovered a sci-fi writer, William Gibson. He’s unputdownable! And perfect for a flight to NYC. He’s the guy who coined “cyberspace”. Such elegant writing. I love it.
What is your greatest fear? To “not be here now”.
Which living person do you most admire? I really admire my daughter.
What is your most marked characteristic? Over-energetic probably and with non-stop ideas. I can’t stop thinking up new projects. I’m a whirling dervish!
What is your most treasured possession? Even though I don’t look at them much, my family albums, videos, stuff we’ve captured on mp3. Very melancholy to look back. The upright rosewood piano I learned to play as a kiddo. O and of course, my health and well-being.
What is your motto? Here. Now.
What do you consider your greatest achievement? This moment.
If you were to die and come back as a person or thing, what do you think it would be? Writer, or actor, or dancer..again.
What characteristic do you most admire in other people? Humour. Elegance.
Which talent would you most like to have? To really be able to sing and belt it out.
If you could change one thing about yourself, what would it be? I am so overly Perfectionist; even when I am wrong, it’s somehow right. That is an unfortunate Virgo trait. I can’t change it!
What is your greatest regret? Je ne regrette rien
What is the most surprising thing about you? I speak fluent Latvian and dabble in several other languages.
What is your idea of happiness? So many different things. A vibrant dinner conversation, playing with my dogs, cooking. But all of it comes to being in the moment. Nowhere to go. Nothing to hurry.
