At the Record Store 1/24
January 24, 2012, 9:22 am
It's been a while since there was a good reason to head to your local record store. Now that we're a few weeks in to 2012, there are plenty of great releases hitting the shelves. ~ Jason Miller
Ani DiFranco - Which Side Are You On?: After a 3 year break, Ani is back. And how. The album's name and title track were inspired by the old union song that Pete Seeger made famous. Ani puts her own take on that song, and Seeger in along for the ride on banjo/vocals. The rest of the album is alternately political and introspective, but as a whole... it's fantastic. Listen for "Life Boat" on KINK Sunday Brunch.
Ingrid Michaelson - Human Again: I've always thought that Ingrid Michaelson was a great songwriter who hadn't found her true niche yet. There's a rumor that her sound on the new album "Human Again", produced by David Kahne, is exactly the step that Ingrid needed. Expect more diversity in accompaniment, but the same core.
Matt Pryor - May Day: The front-man for pop punksters "The Get Up Kids" has traded in his electric for an acoustic. The sound is basic, but enjoyable, singer-songwriter. The songs are sparse, but sound well-produced. Pretty slick.
