5 Things to DO This W-end

Hey! Portlandia Season 2, goodby to The Woods, hello to a Winter Farmers Market, and West Side Story, too.

1.Portlandia Season 2 begins with a Season 1 marathon on ifc starting at 4PM.  Fun thing might be to head over to EastBurn where the plan is to show the marathon and the season starter on the large projection screen on their heated patio and also downstairs in the taproom. Snickering is so much more fun amongst a group of friends.


2. The Woods.  Here's the sad thing to do on the list. We bid a fond farewell to the sweet little spot in Sellwood. It opened in 2009, and was a wonderful gathering place for artists and art.  And now it is closing its doors forever. Let's all crowd in for a FREE finale Saturday night. Things get underway at 9PM. Music from Sallie Ford and the Sound Outside, AgesandAges, and Brothers Young. Make a point. More HERE.


3. Portland Winter Farmers Market. That's the good news. We can now feed our need for locally produced produce beginning Saturday. The market will feature over 35 market vendors, and will come equipped for whatever the weather.  Says PFM, "“Grab your umbrella and come out to support our local farmers, food producers and artisans who are braving the winter elements to bring us delicious wintry comfort food and artisan foods, as well as plenty of greens and produce.” Open 10a-2p at Shemanski Park.  More HERE.


4. West Side Story. The iconic show has arrived at the Keller. The big story, music, and the original Jerome Robbins choreography too. Runs through the w-end  with matinees both Saturday and Sunday. Check out the review and interview with Anita and Bernardo HERE.


5. Free electronics recyling. Not sure where to recycle electronics and other household appliances once you're ready to pull the plug on them? Recycle them, for free, at a drive at Lake Oswego Junior High benefiting Bradley Angle House Saturday from 9a-12p.  All that stuff: computers, laptops, monitors ), , VCRs, DVD players, stereos and audio components, cell phones, PDAs, handheld games, cameras, telephones, batteries, miscellaneous electronics, returned/unwanted products, washers/dryers, ovens/stoves.
