5 Things to DO This W-end
January 2, 2012, 11:00 am
What a W-end: It's the Year of the Dragon, there's that dog show, and the mythbusters are in town. Then there's that hecklevision thingie, all surrounded by a Fertile Ground. O, and some extras at the bottom of the 5.
1. HECKLEVISION. This silliness began last month at the Hollywood Theatre as they teamed UP WITH ALWAYS IRREVERENT
Portland Mercury. Tonight (1/20), they're screening 1984's "Swayze-tastic classic" Red Dawn which of course is only part of the fun. Anyone with a cell phone can have their text messages instantly pop up on the bottom of the movie screen! It sounds insane. (That we can’t leave our phones alone.. but fun.) Tonight at 7:30
2. Fertile Ground is a city-wide festival of new works. This performance spree showcases dance, comedy and fully staged productions, from the big guns like Portland Center Stage to the smaller cozy theatres that dot our urban landscape. I consider this a chance to investigate the creatives that are busy plotting and dreaming all year along. Then. This explosion in all its stages, from glimmers, to readings to full-on productions. HERE. Nicole Lane, festival director gives us a tip on how to navigate to best advantage. Check that out below the 5.
3. Rose City Classic Dog Show at Portland Expo Center - Dog breeders, dog lovers, spectacle lovers gather! Watch beautiful dogs. See bad outfits and horrid shoes. And I am talking about the owners. (Is there a rule requiring suntan stockings Yay!) More
HERE for DOG SHOW! More
HERE about what to wear if you are showing your dog.
4. Mythbusters at the Keller. If you are a fan Jamie Hyneman and Adam Savage bust those myths until only the scientific truth remains. Audience participation, on stage experiments in two shows. More

5. The Year of the Dragon. Actually the Chinese new year begins on Monday. Consider this your heads up. A great place to celebrate with the family is at Lan Su Chinese Garden. They have a full two weeks of events planned. More
